Ralph - First off I enjoy your blog, thank you for the education. There are budding "experts" in the industry. I consider our team one of them. We are a national systems integrator, not trying to protect outsourcing contracts or billable review hours, but helping our Client's to untangle their eDiscovery issues.

We are selling the economic value of bringing eDiscovery in-house by providing consulting services, economic/volume metrics, and vendor technology evaluations. We do have a lawyer engaged with clients to help translate issues, though we do not provide legal advise.

Many of the value statements you make we agree on. Build a team, position yourself proactivly, cooperation, etc. and we use cost / volume models and risk management to bring IT & Legal together.

The most frustrating issue is getting legal to the table to discuss requirements that will improve their processes. We have found that using by economics and Review volumes as helping. However, even without specific requirements, there are the rules, best practices, and case law for guidance. Once these are documented we ask legal to approve or modifiy.

We are independent, big enough to have the breadth of skills, but not defending existing revenue streams.

I would agree with the outragous vendor claims. Technically, there are scale issues, and we strive for purpose specific solutions for eDiscovery within our Client base.

Anyways, through building and effective team, we have found success, even though we do not have trail experience. This experience can be provided by others on the team. We work to translate issues, guide our clients on costs, volumes, and risk issues while keeping vendor honest in regards to what is practical.

Our goals are our clients' in helping them mitigate risks, reduce costs, and gain control over eDiscovery. Untangling these issues is of value to our Client's as they are also evaluating bringing in-house from traditionally outsourced service providers.

Keep up the good work. I enjoy your Blog.
