E-Discovery: the Final Frontier.
These are the voyages of the star-ship Enterprise.
Its five-year mission: to explore strange new IT systems,
to seek out and preserve new ESI and produce new documents,
to boldly go where no lawyer has gone before.
This is the second in the series of cartoon animations designed to provide supplemental instruction on serious issues of electronic discovery law, but do so with a light touch and a smile. This episode of Star Trek Meets e-Discovery deals with the importance of lawyers working as a team with e-discovery vendors, a match up of profession and business. It also demonstrates metrics in action with the impeccable math and logic of Mr. Spock analyzing a seemingly impossible review and production schedule.
I apologize in advance to all my vendor friends for the Ferengi analogy used here, but hey, they are such lovable aliens, and so very rich! Also, special apologies to all women working for e-discovery vendors. Your ears are not that big. In fact, apologies to pretty much everyone I might offend in these videos – past, present and future – it’s all in good fun; and, if the judges can take a little ribbing, so can you.
As I said in Episode One – Captain Kirk is Ordered into the Neutral Zone, this is all part of my attempt at creative education. These animations are designed to be user friendly lessons. This one is my most ambitious animation project to date at 4 minutes and 41 seconds. It addresses the team approach to e-discovery with pointers on how to select and work with vendors. There is no lawyer or law firm or corporation that can go it alone without the helping hand of vendor experts from time to time. The same is true for my online training program, e-DiscoveryTeamTraining.com, where some of the world’s top vendors contribute classes and instruction to complement my own work.
I thought that Ronaldus Magnus said “trust but verify.”

Where was “Scotty”? He would be the FIRST to be consulted on any technical matters.
