Watch the next video on Prioritizing Human Well-Being in the Age of Artificial Intelligence. It was made on April 11, 2017, at an IEEE hosted dinner debate at the European Parliament in Brussels. They discussed the world’s top metric of value (Gross Domestic Product) and how with AI we must move Beyond GDP to holistically measure how intelligent and autonomous systems can hinder or improve human well-being. This is the kind of interdisciplinary approach that we need to take, although we would prefer more participation by the innovators then we see here.

Now another interesting interview at the AI for Good Summit in Geneva of DAVID HANSON, Founder and CEO, Hanson Robotic. He talks about the robots they are building that are “human like” … “artificial organisms” and “truly care about people.” David thinks robots may reach a critical threshold during our lifetime where they become “literally alive.” He even said they could attain consciousness in as early as five years. We may have some interesting prostitution and slavery issues in the future.

Google’s DeepMind CEO, Demis Hassabis, talk on Artificial Intelligence. Demis shows that Deep Mind learning not only allows AIs to learn from human knowledge, but also create new knowledge. AlphaGo developed its own creativity and intuition and invented new knowledge and strategies for the game of Go. This development and abilities at Go is ten years ahead of predictions.

This is slightly off-topic, but consider the insights into consciousness from brain research of Anil Seth who says consciousness requires biological organisms. Anil K Seth is a Professor of Cognitive and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Sussex. He is Co-Director of the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science and Editor-in-Chief of Neuroscience of Consciousness. His talk is called Your brain hallucinates your conscious reality. If Seth is right then computers could never attain consciousness, no matter how smart they became, unless they merged with human beings (or other life forms).
